Dakar, Senegal, September 3 (Infosplusgabon) - Senegalese Minister of Economy, Planning and Cooperation, Amadou Hott, and German Ambassador Stephan Roken on Thursday signed three financial and technical cooperation agreements between the two countries.

The commitment of the German government amounts to a grant of 146 million euros.

The funding is intended for implementation of projects and programmes in the renewable energy sector, energy efficiency and access to energy and for the implementation of the "reform partnerships" programme initiated within the framework of the "Compact with Africa" launched by German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the G20 level.

The signing of the agreements took place in Dakar in the presence of the Ambassador and Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Senegal, Irène Mingasson.

The Senegalese minister praised Germany's assistance, recalling its commitment to grant Senegal 104 million euros for the 2020 budget.

"I take this opportunity, to welcome once again the dynamism of cooperation between our two countries, like the whole of the European Union, which has adapted well over time, depending on the major priorities and orientations defined by the authorities," said Mr. Hott.

For his part, German Secretary of State Martin Jäger, who attended the ceremony, underlined his country's willingness to support Senegal as "a priority partner".

"As part of our partnership, we intend to support the ambitious reform efforts deployed by the Senegalese government. We have notably given ourselves the mission of supporting the objectives of the Plan Senegal Emergent (PSE), which is the promotion of employment and mobilization of investments,” he said.

As part of the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Germany has already granted Senegal 100 million euros to support the implementation of its economic and social resilience programme.

This aid is intended to provide relief to the most vulnerable households and businesses directly affected by COVID-19.
