Libyan personalities call for Guterres' intervention to end foreign interference

Tripoli, Libya, September 2 (Infosplusgabon) - Libyan politicians, human rights activists, academics, media professionals and opinion leaders have written to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urging his intervention and condemnation of "any foreign interference in Libyan affairs for whatever reason".

In their message published Tuesday, these personalities expressed their conviction that "the crisis in Libya is no longer just a struggle for power and wealth between the Libyan parties, but rather that Libya has become an arena of conflicts between foreign parties".

They noted that "some countries have found in the current conditions that the country has been going through since 2011 an opportunity to settle their regional and international accounts, and to realise their interests".

They believe that all existing organs in Libya "lack the legitimacy to confer legal or political legitimacy on the presence of foreign forces or mercenaries on Libyan soil", expressing their hope that the UN will deal with these organs on this basis.

Signatories of this message urged "the competent UN institutions to do what is necessary to demand the departure of foreign forces in all their forms from Libya", considering that "their presence is illegal and incompatible with the rules of international law and the UN Charter, and explicitly violates all UN Security Council resolutions related to the Libyan crisis. "

They stressed the need to take decisions and action to end foreign interference in the Libyan crisis.

According to them, "this is the only way that will allow Libyans to regain their national will and give them the opportunity to agree on local solutions to their crisis. It opens the doors to stability and peace and strengthens their hopes for a better future".
