Bamako, Mali, September 2 (Infosplusgabon) - Significant amounts of rain are expected in all regions of Mali and in the District of Bamako during the week, August 31 to September 6, according to the National Meteorological Agency, which urged people to be cautious during this period.

Last Saturday, heavy rain fell on the country, causing enormous damage in some neighbourhoods of Bamako and in the interior of the country, without causing loss of life.

In the district of Bamako, particularly in the popular neighbourhoods of Niamakoro, in commune VI, and Sabalibougou, in commune V, several houses were flooded, driving hundreds from their homes and causing considerable material damage, including submerging houses.

The main cause is thought to be due to buildings in unauthorised plots and dumping of refuse on water canals.

In Hamdallaye ACI, the main business centre in Bamako, the showers did not spare the workplaces. The headquarters of the National Bank for Agricultural Development (BNDA) was also flooded.
