Coronavirus: Kenyatta urges caution as pandemic curve 'flattens'

Nairobi, Kenya, August 31 (Infosplusgabon) - President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday called on Kenyans to remain focused on victory against coronavirus as the curve of infections in the country begins to flatten.

Kenyatta, opening a one-day coronavirus conference at State House, Nairobi, called for caution, saying knowledge gained from global and national response to the killer virus should be put to good use.

The conference, organised by the Council of Governors, is focused on building resilience to deal with future pandemics.

The Council of Governors is a body that brings together Kenya’s 47 county governors.

Kenyatta said knowledge in the global and national response to the pandemic should be utilised in the roll-out of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the country.

It should be structured to promote preventive medicine, he said.

The UHC is one of Kenyatta’s Big Four Agenda. The others are affordable housing, manufacturing and food security.

"Pre-mortem analysis will help us chart the path to sustainable health provision for all," Kenyatta said.

"Using this model, the conference should, therefore, give us counsel on how to promote preventive medicine over symptomatic care," he added.

As at Sunday, Kenya has recorded 33,057 infections, discharged 19,688 patients who have recovered while 574 have succumbed to the killer disease. The case fatality rate is 1.69 per cent compared with the global rate of 3.36 percent

Medical authorities are, however, cautious and are asking Kenyans not to drop their guard.
