Tripoli, Libya, August 31 (Infosplusgabon) - Libyan authorities on Monday reopened schools for students siting for their Baccalaureate examinations, more than five months after schools were closed due to the emerging coronavirus pandemic.

However, the resumption of classes has been ordered in areas under the control of the Government of national accord (GNA), which is recognized by the international community.

According to local reports, students and teachers were required to respect the preventive measures, including physical distancing, wearing of masks, the use of hydro-alcoholic gel and taking the temperature at the entrance of schools.

On Sunday, the Academy Inspections declared themselves ready to receive the students.

Last week, the GNA Minister of Education, Mohamed Ammari Zayed, had set August 29 as the resumption date, but on Wednesday, the Ministry decided to postpone reopening to Monday, 31 Augus,  due to the decision of the Presidential Council to impose a complete curfew for a period of four more days, starting at 6 p.m.

All secondary schools targeted for the resumption of classes have received their batches of materials related to the barrier measures, and have also completed the necessary maintenance and preparation for resumption.
