Tunis, Tunisia, August 31 (Infosplusgabon) - The Tunisian government has authorised, for the first time, 1.6 million Tunisian workers abroad to open foreign currency bank accounts remotely.
This authorisation was made effective by an agreement recently signed between the Tunisian government and the state-owned Tunisian Agriculture Bank to encourage Tunisian emigrants to transfer part of their savings to their country with an interest rate of 2% in Tunisian dinars.
In a statement to the press, Tunisian Finance Minister Nizar Yaïche said that "emigrants can use their accounts remotely by paying or withdrawing sums".
This rate granted by the bank to its external clients is considered important compared to the rates applied in host countries, he added.
This measure will come into force on 1 October, Mr. Yaïche said.
