Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, August 22 (Infosplusgabon) - The president of Côte d'Ivoire, Alassane Ouattara, was nominated Saturday by his party for a third term, against demonstrations opposing his candidacy.

"After the death of Amadou Gon Coulibaly, you unanimously asked me to reconsider my decision not to be a candidate for the presidential election of October 31, 2020.

“After careful consideration and at the end of consultations with many trusted personalities, I decided, in my soul and conscience and out of civic duty, to respond favorably to your call," one read on the Facebook page of Mr. Ouattara accompanied by thousands of activists in a stadium .

"Thanks to your support and your mobilization, I obtained a million sponsorships. Thank you! I will submit my candidacy file next week," he said, adding that "we believe in a a large victory for the RHDP, from the first round, on the evening of October 31, 2020, because we have a record, a project and a vision for our country ".

He called on his supporters to continue to strengthen peace, stability, social cohesion and the influence of the country.

In recent weeks, there have been demonstrations against the candidacy of Mr. Ouattara for this third term.

Faced with this situation, last week, the Ivorian government even made a decision to ban all demonstrations until September 15.

However, the country saw demonstrations in several localities across the country on Friday. These demonstrations were dispersed and people arrested.

"All the observers of good faith know very well that being in the 3rd Republic, nothing prevents me from being a candidate. This is moreover the case for my predecessors if they meet all the other conditions. This right, I had decided not to exercise it in March 2020, to hand over to a new generation," said President Ouattara.
