Tripoli, Libya, August 22 (Infosplusgabon) - The presidential council of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Saturday thanked Turkey, Qatar and brotherly and friendly countries for supporting Libyans during the current crisis.

The Council made this known at a working session presided over by the GNA chairman, Fayez Al-Sarraj, in the presence of the Vice-President, Ahmed Maitig, and members of the Council, Mohamed Ammari Zayed and Ahmed Hamza, said a statement from the presidential council's information office.

The meeting focused on the latest developments in the country, as well as a general assessment of regional and international positions in the face of the Libyan crisis, the same source said.

The presidential council reiterated its aspiration for fraternal Egypt to play a positive role in the coming stage, which, it hoped, would be a stage of construction, stability and peace.

The Council affirmed that the modern civil state was an irreversible option, stressing its firm stance of rejecting the militarization of the state in response to the demand of Libyans to preserve security, the unity and sovereignty of Libya.

The council stressed the importance of resuming the political process on the basis of clear grounds in which there is no room for those whose hands are stained with Libyan blood or for anyone who has committed violations amounting to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

He stressed the need to resume production and exports in oil fields and ports to support the Libyan economy and meet the needs of citizens and alleviate their suffering.

The Libyan Council stressed that parliamentary and presidential elections were its objective to reach a stable and permanent political stage provided they were conducted according to a strong constitutional rule agreed by Libyans.

Fayez Al-Sarraj and the speaker of the Parliament, Aguila Salah, issued on Friday two statements announcing a ceasefire in the whole of Libyan territory.

They stressed the importance of "resuming the production and export of oil, and freezing its income in a special account at a Libyan foreign bank until a political settlement is reached in accordance with the results of the Berlin conference and guarantee of the UN mission and international community .

Al-Sarraj's statement underlined the importance of making Sirte and Al-Joufra demilitarized zones, calling for presidential and legislative elections next March, while Salah called for Sirte as a temporary capital of the new presidential council.
