EU gives Tunisia 10 million Euros to help deal with illegal migration

Tunis, Tunisia, August 19 (Infosplusgabon) - The European Union (EU) has mobilised 10 million Euros (32 million dinars) for Tunisia to help it acquire boats and equipment for surveillance of its borders to fight against illegal migration, the European Commissioner for home affairs, Yiva Johansson, said here Monday.

In a meeting that brought together an Italian-European delegation and members of the Tunisian government, Johansson said the objective of that aid was to fight against "the activities of human traffickers", alluding to smugglers active in illegal migration.

The European Union will provide the necessary aid for Tunisia to achieve now and in the future strategic economic reforms.

She said the present situation marked by the movements of illegal migrations required the conquest of new cooperation areas to help Tunisia develop.
