France strongly condemns ongoing mutiny in Mali

Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, August 18 (Infosplusgabon) - France Tuesday strongly condemned the ongoing mutiny in the Malian capital, Bamako, official sources said here Tuesday.

 

 

 

France “strongly condemns” the mutiny and “strongly reaffirms its full attachment to the Malian sovereignty and democracy”, said a statement issued by the ministry of French foreign affairs.

 

The statement said that France "fully shares the position expressed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)" which also condemned the situation before calling for "the keeping of constitutional order, urging the soldiers to return to their barracks immediately".

 

The head of the Malian government, Boubou Cissé, has called the soldiers who took weapons to show common sense and patriotism, calling on them to silence their guns.

 

He said "the movements of protest noted express a certain frustration that can have legitimate causes”.

 

“The Malian government calls the actors of such rebellions to show common sense and restraint.

 

"There is no reason below our dear nation that are worth actions which uncertain ending can result in acts damageable for the entire nation", Cissé said.

 

The government "calls for common sense and patriotism to silence guns. There is no problem which solution cannot be found through dialogue".

 

Cissé called for peace and underlined that the "government is available as soon as this communiqué is issued to engage fraternal dialogue to resolve all misunderstanding".
