Coronavirus: Nigeria records 576 new cases; total now 37,801

Abuja, Nigeria, August 5 (Infosplusgabon) – Nigeria recorded 576 new coronavirus (COVID-19) infections on Tuesday, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 37,801.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said via its Twitter handle that 15,677 out of the 37,801 cases have fully recovered and have been discharged. The country has recorded 805 deaths from the virus.

The Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said that as at Tuesday, Africa has recorded 15,169 deaths. The continent has recorded 721,563 confirmed infections while 383,195 have been treated and discharged.

According to data from Johns Hopkins University, which tracks daily figures of the pandemic, more than 14.8 million people around the world have been diagnosed with coronavirus, over 8.43 million have been treated and discharged while over 616,000 have died.

The United States has over 3.9 million infections and over 144,000 deaths.
