Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, August 5 (Infosplusgabon) - Burkina Faso is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its independence on Wednesday, but the festivities will take place on 11 December in Banfora, in the west of the country, as it does every year.

In a statement, Burkina Faso's President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré recalled that this accession to national and international sovereignty was the result of the struggle of illustrious predecessors.

"This is the place for me to salute their memory, and to reaffirm my commitment to continue the work of national construction," he said.

He stressed that this year the country commemorates this historic date in a context marked by the persistence of terrorist attacks and the coronavirus pandemic.

"In the face of these scourges, we have been able to fight and adapt. That is why I would like to express my deep gratitude to the defence and security forces, and to the health workers, for the sacrifices made," he added.
