Tunis, Tunisia, July 21 (Infosplusgabon) - Tunisia Monday recorded seven new confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) after laboratory tests on a group of 422 persons, including 24 follow-up patients, the ministry of Health said here in a statement.

These take to 84,245 the overall number of tests carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic in the country.

With these new infections, the total number of confirmed cases stands at 1,381, including 1,099 recoveries, 50 deaths and 232 patients still under treatment, the ministry said.

The number of imported cases recorded in the country since the opening of borders on 27 June to 18 July is estimated at 198 confirmed cases as against seven local cases.

Reacting to the increase in imported cases, a member of the scientific committee for the fight against coronavirus, Jelila Khalil, said the increase in the number of cases showed the continued spread of the deadly virus in several regions of the world.

The, therefore, insisted on the need for Tunisians to show prudence and respect the health protection measures.

She announced that the scientific committee of fight against the coronavirus would meet on Tuesday to evaluate the epidemiological situation.

This, she said, was to review the increasing number of imported cases in a bid to take new measures, underlining the possibility to come back to some decisions to better take control of the spread of the virus.

The director of the watchdog of new and emerging diseases, Incef Ben Alia, insisted on the need for Tunisians to continue showing vigilance and respect the health protocols to limit the spread of the virus.
