Bamako, Mali, July 14 (Infosplusgabon) – Calm returned to the Malian capital, Bamako, on Monday after three days of chaos and clashes during which 11 people were killed and more than 120 others wounded, according to hospital sources.
Meanwhile, four leaders of the 5 June – Rally of Patriotic forces (M5-RFP) who were arrested on Friday and on Saturday have been released, waiting for the conclusion of investigations, judicial sources told PANA.
Issa Kaou N’Djim, Choguel Maiga, Imam Oumarou Diarra and Mountaga Tall returned home, according to their lawyer Mr Alifa Habib Koné.
The leaders of the protest marches were arrested following a violent demonstration on Friday and Saturday
Their release was demanded by opposition parties, religious leaders and by the international community, particularly the United-Nations, the European Union, the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Thousands of demonstrators, on a call from the M5-RFP on Friday gathered around the Independence Square in Bamako to demand the resignation of Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Kéita, whom they accused of ‘’bad management’’ of the multiform crisis rocking the country.
Roadblocks have been taken away from the main streets and the traffic moves normally. However, some centres of protests were still active in the city of Bamako.
