Tripoli, Libya, July 14 (Infosplusgabon) - Algerian President Abdelmajid Tabboune Monday called for a “new action plan” to resolve the Libyan crisis under the aegis of the United-Nations.

He also supported the formation of a transitional government "resulting from national consensus", reaffirming Algeria’s will to host the inter-Libyan peace talks under the supervision of the UN.

President Tabboune made the call in an interview with the French newspaper "L'Opinion", which extracts were quoted on Monday by the official Algerian news agency (APS).

Tabboune said: "Libya helped us during the liberation war after the country hosted Moudjahidines on its lands, and it is our duty to provide them aid."

He opined that "this cannot satisfy the countries acting in the name of their economic interests, but the military option is not a solution".

The Algerian president reaffirmed the will of his country to host the Libyan talks under the aegis of the United-Nations, saying that Libyans “want peace”.

"We must work on a new action plan that will lead to peaceful elections by two or three years under the supervision of the United-Nations, and a transitional government that will emerge from national consensus," saidTabboune.

He added that the restoration of stability in Libya "is a national security challenge", saying: "we agree with all actions that could lead to ceasefire, but a ceasefire is only the beginning of solution".

In his interview with the French newspaper, the Algerian president declared that neighboring countries (Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt) "are the most likely to help Libya resume the path for peace".

Algeria, in association with Tunisia and Egypt, have made attempts to carry on mediation aiming to bring together Libyan protagonists to harmonize their positions with a view to finding a solution to the crisis shaking this country.
