COVID-19: Marginal decline as Kenya's pandemic fatality rate drops to 2.4 percent

Nairobi, Kenya, June 27 (Infosplusgabon) - Kenya's coronavirus fatality rate has marginally declined to 2.4 percent, health authorities said on Saturday.

The death toll rose to 141 after four more deaths were recorded during the last 24 hours.

With 3, 734 active cases, the country’s death toll has over time declined from 5.1 per cent in April and 3.4 per cent in May.

In June coronavirus-related deaths were averaging 2.7 per cent of reported  infections.

Speaking at  a daily pandemic media briefing, Heath Chief Administrative Secretary Mercy Mwangangi noted that cumulative infections reported in the country since March 14 rose to 5,811.

She said 278 new cases were detected within 24 hours with 4,074 samples screened.

The ministry said 162, 478 tests had been conducted since March.

Nairobi and Mombasa counties remained  hot spots in terms of new infections detected during the last 24 hours.

Nairobi had 171 cases, while Mombasa reported 37. Mwangangi said 1,936 patients had been discharged from hospitals within 24 hours leading to Saturday.

Mwangangi noted 1,936 patients had been cleared since since April 1, 31 of whom were given a clean bill of health within 24 hours leading to Saturday.
