Coronavirus: Benin reaches 1,000 cases of infection

Cotonou, Benin, June 26 (Infosplusgabon) - Benin Wednesday reached the line of 1,000 people infected with the coronavirus (COVID -19), according to statistics made public here Thursday by the ministry of Health.

The country has recorded a total of 1,017 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 715 patients under treatment, 288 recoveries and 14 deaths, said the ministry.

The situation, which seemed to return to normalcy on 11 May, has become alarming again, two weeks after the reopening of places of worship.

For several days, Benin recorded a significant rise in the number of infected people and the number of deaths.

The ministry said 75 percent of cases were reported in the three departments south of the country around which a health belt was established.

They were the departments of Oueme, Atlantic and Littoral.
