Tunis, Tunisia, June 25 (Infosplusgabon) - The financial situation of Tunisian families has deteriorated due to the new coronavirus (COVID-19), and the subsequent general health confinement measures, a survey carried out by the Tunisian National Statistics Institute (INS) in collaboration with the World Bank said here Wednesday.

The survey, which date of publication was not specified, said that during the confinement, the situation of about a third of Tunisian poorest families had significantly deteriorated.

It said more than half of families were not able to ensure their constant needs, while the large majority of those families (95%) could not have expenditure and 37 percent were unable to pay their debts.

After the confinement, only 40 percent of Tunisian families were able to mobilize 200 Tunisian dinars to satisfy their urgent needs.

That percentage drops to reach 27 percent if the amount to mobilize is set at 500 Tunisian dinars and 15 percent if they are at 1,000 dinars, said the survey.

The present survey is the third in a series carried out by the Tunisian National statistics on the economic and social consequences of the health crisis in Tunisia.

The first survey covered the period between 29 April and 8 May, and the second between 15 and 21 May 2020.
