Tripoli, Libya, June 24 (Infosplusgabon) - The Libyan Interior Minister for the government of national accord (GNA), Fathi Bachagha, on Wednesday held talks with the Italian Foreign Minister, Luigi di Maio, on joint cooperation in the fight against illegal immigration.

During the meeting held at the headquarters of the Presidential Council, both officials discussed the prospects for joint cooperation between the two friendly countries, on the latest developments in Libya, the issue of illegal immigration and the development of joint coordination to combat this phenomenon.

According to a statement issued by the Libyan Interior Ministry, the meeting was held in the presence of the Libyan Minister for Foreign Affairs of the government of national accord, Mohamed Taher Siala, the Libyan ambassador to the European Union, and a number of security officials, as well as the Director of the European Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Italian Ambassador to Libya.

The statement added that Mr. di Maio expressed condolences for the deceased victims of mines laid by Haftar's forces "during their aggression against the capital, Tripoli".

The statement also noted that Bachagha praised "Italy's contribution to mine clearing operations ... in residential areas" on the outskirts of Tripoli.

Reports say that mines laid by Haftar's forces during their withdrawal from the areas on the southern outskirts of Tripoli have left 27 people dead and 40 injured, preventing those displaced for more than a year from returning to their homes from which they were driven away when the attack on Tripoli started on April 4.
