Coronavirus: Benin positive cases rise to 765

Cotonou, Benin, June 22 (Infosplusgabon) - Benin has recorded 115 new cases of coronavirus in 48 hours, bringing the total number of people infected to 765 since it first appeared in the country on 16 March, the Ministry of Health announced.

According to the ministry, 253 patients recovered, 499 are still on treatment, while 13 have succumbed to the virus.

The situation, which appeared to have returned to normal on 11 May, became alarming again two weeks after the reopening of places of worship.

In recent days, Benin has seen an increase in the number of people infected and the number of deaths has also been on the rise.

Three southern departments -- Ouémé, Atlantic and Littoral -- account for 75 per cent of cases. A sanitary cordon had been erected around these regions.
