Tunisian customs seize cash, 13 bars of gold

Tunis Tunisia, June 22 (Infosplusgabon) - A Tunisian customs patrol on Saturday seized a large sum of foreign currency and 13 gold bars in a car with a fake Libyan registration number plate, a Tunisian customs press release announced.

The items were seized in the region of Sfax in the south at around 10:00 pm after the driver refused to comply with customs orders to stop and tried to flee through farms, the statement said.

After searching the vehicle, customs officials found 590,000 euros and 13 bars of 24-carat gold weighing 28.8 kg worth an estimated 4.7 million Tunisian dinars.

Customs officials, after questioning the driver, realised that the car had a forged licence plate and did not pass through the border crossing.
