Coronavirus: Burundi records 40 new confirmed cases bringing total to 144

Bujumbura, Burundi, June 21 (Infosplusgabon) - Burundi has recorded 40 new positive cases of coronavirus taking the total number of infected persons to to 144.

 

 

 

A communiqué issued on Sunday by the Ministry of Health and the Fight against HIV/AIDS said Burundi has had a total of 93 recoveries and one death since the appearance of the first cases in late March.

 

The new positive cases were detected after tests carried out between 15 and 19 May.

 

Meanwhile, the ministry of Public Health and the fight against AIDS has reaffirmed its appeal to the public to "strictly" respect the individual and collective preventive measures against the COVID-19.

 

During his official investiture on Thursday, the new Burundi president, Evariste Ndayishimiye, said the country has recorded only "a few cases" of COVID-19 "thanks to divine protection".

 

The minister of Public Health, Dr Thaddée Ndikumana, on his part said as early of this week all the country’s health districts will be equipped to directly follow up cases of COVID-19 instead of transferring them to Bujumbura.
