Nairobi, Kenya, June 21 (Infosplusgabon) - The detection of 260 new positive cases of coronavirus on Sunday saw Kenya record the highest number of single-day infections.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, told journalists that the new cases pushed the number of infections to 4,738 since March when the first case was confirmed in the country.

He said the new cases were confirmed from 3, 651 samples tested since Saturday.  The new infections include a 90-year-old and a seven-month-old infant.

The discharge of 19 patients on Sunday, saw the number of recoveries rise to 1,607. The death toll is now 123.

"The coronavirus will be with us for a long time and it will in all probabilities eventually stretch our medical system," warned Kagwe.

He also warned that bars operating against the coronavirus restrictions will have their licenses revoked.

The government ordered bars and restaurants shut as one of many measures to curb the spread of the pandemic but later eased the operating hours of restaurants.
