Nairobi, Kenya, June 18 (Infosplusgabon) - Kenyan health authorities on Thursday detected 213  new Covid-19 infections as the number of people  who have tested positive for the pandemic rose to 4,257.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr. Rashid Aman said the new infections were diagnosed from 6,024 samples analysed within 24 hours.

During the same period 10 people succumbed to Covid-19-related conditions, bringing the number of fatalities to 117.

The country recorded 106 recoveries, raising the total number of cured cases  in the country to 1,459.

The death rate translates to 2.75 percent  against the global average of 5.3 percent.

“The increasing number of new infections means that the possibility of one getting infected is real because the virus is well entrenched in our community and lurking in our midst, Dr Aman told the media at a daily pandemic update.

He said 198 of the patients are Kenyan while 15 are foreigners with 152 being  males and 62 females.

Aman said 136 of the new cases were tracked in Nairobi, the Kenyan capital while Mombasa County had 32. Border counties, Kajiado and Busia-bordering Tanzania and Uganda respectively registered 13 and 5 cases respectively.

Nairobi and Mombasa remain the hot-spots. Single digit figures were registered in other counties.
