Cotonou, Benin, June 18 (Infosplusgabon) - Benin has recorded 25 new cases and two deaths due to COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours, Infosplusgabon learnt from the Ministry of Health on Thursday.
"As of June 17, 2020, there were a total of 597 confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection, with 348 people on treatment, 238 people cured and 11 deaths,” according to statistics published by the ministry.
The country carried out 17,128 screenings with the PCR "polymerase chain reaction" and 36,272 with the rapid diagnostic test (TDR).
Benin recorded its first case of infection on March 16. It opted for systematic screening of travellers on their arrival at the airport, people screened positive for the rapid diagnostic test are taken care of and followed according to suitable protocols.
The Beninese government constantly calls on the population to respect health measures, in particular preventive ways by washing of hands with soap and water, wearing a mask everywhere, respecting physical distance of a minimum of one meter, etc.) to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.
