Nairobi, Kenya, June 18 (Infosplusgabon) - Schools in Kenya will not be re-opened in September as earlier announced if the number of Covid-19 infections continues to rise, Education Cabinet Secretary, Prof George Magoha said on Thursday.
Magoha told the Senate Ad hoc team on coronavirus that the government is monitoring the situation and weighing out options whether learning could resume in September.
He said that the 2020 secondary and primary schools national examinations - KCSE and KCPE respectively - will be administered between September and April.
If the Covid-19 crisis persists beyond April 2021, the national examinations could be deferred to November 2021.
The first Covid-19 case in Kenya was reported in March, prompting the government to order the closure of schools and other learning institutions, to curb the spread of the virus.
It also banned large gatherings, affecting worshiping in churches, mosques and sporting activities.
