Kigali, Rwanda, June 16 (Infosplusgabon) -  Rwanda will this week conduct its first behavioral survey on the coronavirus (COVID-19) to determine new lockdown measures, health authorities announced here Monday.

According to the head of epidemiology division and surveillance response at the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), Dr José Nyamusore, the study will help better understand risk behaviors and practices related to COVID-19 infection and transmission in the communities.

Results of a previous survey that was conducted in May this year proved that coronavirus did not spread further in communities, thus giving the government confidence to at least partially lift the lockdown.

Rwandan health officials recently gave assurance that they knew the source of the virus and had the ability to trace 95 percent of the contacts.

The first case in Rwanda was diagnosed on March 14 while the first death occurred on May 30.

Earlier this month, Rwanda eased its countrywide lockdown measures but parts of Rusizi in the southwest and Rubavu in the northwest remained in total lockdown until further notice.

In these remote rural districts, public servants and private operators have been asked to work from home, except those offering essential services, a government statement said.

Movements across the country are still prohibited from 9 pm to 5 am in line with the curfew imposed to limit the spread of the disease.
