Kigali, Rwanda, June 16 (Infosplusgabon) -  The Rwandan parliament at a plenary meeting here Monday approved a bill regulating the establishment of the first ever nuclear science center.

The Center of Nuclear Science and Technology (CNST) will become a platform for carrying out a whole range of scientific research and practical application of nuclear technologies.

According to the chairperson of Education, Technology, Culture and Youth Committee, the endorsed law follows a ratification in October, last year, between Rwanda and Russia on cooperation in the construction of the nuclear center.

The nuclear power deal was first signed in Moscow in December 2018 and will see Russian scientists set up a Centre for Nuclear Science and Technology in Kigali.

The deal was boosted in May when a Russian government nuclear parastatal, Rosatom Global, reached an agreement to set up the nuclear plant by 2024.

The government says the plant will help in the advancement of technology in agriculture, energy production and environmental protection.
