Tunis, Tunisia, June 16 (Infosplusgabon) - Tunisia recorded 14 new confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) after laboratory tests carried out Sunday on 985 persons, the Tunisian ministry of Health said here Monday.

The new cases comprise one local and 13 imported from repatriated nationals placed in obligatory health quarantine centers, said the same source.

This takes to 1,110 the overall number of infections reported in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.

These are made up of 999 recoveries, 49 deaths and 62 patients still under medical treatment.

Mrs Insaf Ben Alia, director of the watchdog of new and emerging diseases, Monday attributed the continued spread of the virus in several parts of the world to imported cases.

Tunisian Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh Sunday evening in a televised address said "the Tunisians must be proud of their country who eradicated the world pandemic, which required the mobilization of the whole world".

"Things are under control and we did all we could and have taken all measures to fight against the coronavirus," he said.
