Nairobi, Kenya, June 16 (Infosplusgabon) - Four staff members have tested positive for coronavirus at the State House in Nairobi, the official residence of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, a spokesperson said on Monday.

The four were picked out from routine testing of top officials as part of proactive measures being implemented to contain the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), said Kanze Dena, Spokesperson at State House.

She said State House staff were regularly tested for the disease.

"The tests are conducted on all staff including His Excellency the President and members of his family. During last week's mass Covid-19 testing on Thursday, four persons were found to have contracted the disease," Dena said in a statement.

The infected officers were admitted to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital. Families and close contacts of the affected officers are also being attended to accordingly.

To strengthen Covid-19 containment measures, extra access protocols for State House staff residing outside the compound and visitors have been rolled out.

"State House would like to inform Kenyans that His Excellency the President and the First Family are safe and free from Covid-19. State House would also like to remind Kenyans that every person is at risk of contracting Covid-19. No one is immune to the disease," Dena said.

On Monday, 133 new cases of the coronavirus were reported, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 3,727 people, Health Ministry Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said.
