Tripoli, Libya, June 15 (Infosplusgabon) - A total of 107 bodies found on June 5 at Tarhouna Hospital south of Tripoli, the last stronghold of Haftar supporters in western Libya, have been  presented to the medical examiner for an autopsy.

The Office of the Prosecutor General in Libya said that the prosecution has taken the necessary measures to identify the victims.

In a statement released on Sunday regarding the ongoing investigations into  crimes of the armed groups that controlled the town of Tarhouna and its surroundings affiliated with Haftar, the statement added that "the prosecutor ordered the law enforcement authorities working in the city to direct those who have been affected by crime or who had information about the incident to the attorney general's office to testify."

The statement said the prosecution continues to communicate with the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), as well as with the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), for  cooperation in the investigation of the facts and the prosecution of the perpetrators, leaders and supporters of the armed group called 'al-Kaniyat'.

The public prosecutor affirmed that "details of the facts and the identity of the persons accused of having committed them or of incitement and assistance, are always the confidentiality of the criminal investigations which prevented the disclosure during the previous years, and justifications for secrecy still exist, in particular the protection of witnesses and the guarantee of their safety."

The Libyan Foreign Ministry of the Government of National Accord has called on the Security Council to take a firm stand on the crimes committed by Haftar's militias in Tarhouna.

Previously, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said he was horrified by the discoveries of mass graves in Tarhouna and asked for an investigation to bring their authors to justice.
