Dakar, Senegal, June 15  (Infosplusgabon) – Morocco is sending medical aid to several African countries to fight against the COVID 19, according to a communiqué issued by the Moroccan ministry of foreign affairs made public on Sunday.

It said King Mohamed VI had given instructions to send medical aid to 15 fellow African countries.

These are: Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Comoros, Congo, Eswatini, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Malawi, Mauritania, Niger, Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Tanzania, Chad and Zambia.

The Moroccan medical aid includes about 8 million health masks, 900,000 visors, 600,000 hygiene caps, 60,000 white coats, 30,000 litres of hydro-alcoholic gel and 75,000 boxes of chloroquine in addition to 145,000 boxes of azithromycine, an antibiotic.

The communiqué said all the items were produced in Morocco and conformed to the norms set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Royal Air Morocco will from 15 June 2020 carry out dozens of flights with th cargo to the beneficiary countries.

This solidarity action comes within the framework of the implementation of the initiative launched by Morocco on 13 April to share its experience in the management of the pandemic, said the ministry.

Morocco on Thursday in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, called for the establishment of an African expert platform to fight against epidemics, to enable the continent to depend on itself and fight against future health crises.

King Mohamed VI in mid-April proposed the launch of an initiative of African presidents to establish an operational framework to help African countries in their different stages of the management of the coronavirus pandemic.

"It is about a pragmatic initiative orientated towards action, enabling a sharing of experience and good practice to fight against the health, economic and social effect of the pandemic in the different African countries," said the Moroccan king.

Morocco has 8,734 confirmed cases, 7,725 recoveries and 212 deaths.
