Gaborone, Botswana, June 15 (Infosplusgabon) - The Botswana Football Association (BFA) has cancelled the country’s main premier football league competition, as impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic unravel.

The Association said on Sunday that the decision was in line with government's regulations on fighting the virus and reducing transmission.

“Having considered the prevailing circumstances in Botswana, the guidelines provided by the BFA medical committee, FIFA and CAF (Confederation of African Football) and the financial resources needed to return to play, the Botswana Football Association and National Executive Committee have unanimously agreed to end the football season,” it said in a statement.

The Association said in ending the season, the effect is that the team at the summit is crowned champions and the teams at the bottom of the table are relegated.

Consequently, Jwaneng Galaxy has been declared champions, as it was leading the table with 41 points, one point better of Township Rollers and Orapa United.

Botswana has 60 confirmed cases, 24 recoveries and one death.
