Cape Town, South Africa, June 13 (Infosplusgabon) - South African golfing legend Gary Player Saturday won a US$5-million lawsuit against his own son.

Documents from the Palm Beach County Circuit Court in South Florida where Player owns a holiday home revealed that the nine-time Major winner was owed the money from the Gary Player Group run by his son, Marc.

It found that Marc had used Player’s famous trademark nickname, “the Black Knight”, to promote his various business ventures, including designing golf course, clothing ranges and wine.

Although a settlement was reached between the two parties last month, it was only finalised this week.

“GPG no longer has any right to use the Player name, likeness, image, or any of the other ownership rights,” the agreement state.

The 84-year-old athlete became the first non-American golfer to win all four Major championships and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1974.

In 2000, he was voted as South Africa’s Sportsman of The Century.

In March, President Donald Trump awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom for meritorious service to the United States.

Throughout his career, Player was targeted by anti-apartheid protestors but he formed a close relationship with Nelson Mandela following the world statesman’s release from prison in 1990.

Following Mandela’s death in 2013, Player said that when he met Mandela for the first time weeks after his release, he kissed the liberation hero’s feet.
