Trade between Tunisia, outside world drops significantly

Tunis, Tunisia, June 13 (Infosplusgabon) - Trade between Tunisia and the rest of the world in May dropped significantly for the third consecutive month due to the health confinement linked to the new coronavirus (COVID-19), the Tunisian national statistics institute (INS) said here Friday.

The drop essentially concerned exports which dropped by 37.1 percent, compared to May 2019, said the INS, which indicated that the textile, clothing, leather and mechanic and electric sectors were the most affected.

Exports in the other transformation industries also recorded a drop estimated at 49.6 percent, with that of phosphate and derivatives dropping by 17.8 percent and the energy sector by 8.4 percent.

On the other hand, the export of agricultural and food products recorded a 16.4 percent increase, the INS said.
