Tunisian Navy recovers 13 additional bodies from shipwreck

Tunis, Tunisia, June 11 (Infosplusgabon) - Units of the Tunisian Navy on Thursday recovered 13 additional bodies (9 men and 4 women) from the boat that sank off the coast of the Sfax region (Southeast).

 

The latest figure brings to 48, the total number of bodies recovered, the Tunisian Ministry of Defense announced in a statement on Thursday.

 

The boat was carrying sub-Saharan migrants.

 

The search for the bodies started on June 9, the minister recalled, indicating that the search was still continuing and that the recovered bodies have been transferred to the university hospital in Sfax.

 

The boat carrying illegal migrants capsized on the night of June 6 to 7, off the coast of the Sfax region.

 

The head of the autopsy section of the university hospital in Sfax said that 19 bodies were buried on Wednesday, and the rest of the deceased are in still in the mortuary pending identification.
