Port-Louis, Mauritius, June 6 (Infosplusgabon) – The Mauritius Government has authorised the Mauritius Turf Club (MTC), a horse racing organiser, to conduct race meetings behind closed doors under strict protocols as from 20 June for the sake of the Horse Racing industry.

In a communiqué issued on Saturday following the weekly meeting of the Cabinet, the Prime Minister’s Office said the MTC has prepared two COVID-19 protocols regarding ‘Race Day’ and ‘Track Work and Training’, in consultation with the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) and other relevant stakeholders.

“These two protocols set out strict procedures for attendees to comply with sanitary measures put in place as well as limit the number of attendees on Race Days,” it said.

The Cabinet also said that access to the Champ de Mars racecourse, in Port-Louis, on Race Days would be restricted to those in possession of special access permits that would be delivered by the Police in consultation with the GRA and the MTC.

Furthermore, a regulation to declare the Champ de Mars, as well as its surroundings a Restricted Area on Race Days would be promulgated, accordingly.

Horse Racing is organised every Saturday, all year-round, in Port-Louis, attracting tens of thousands of Mauritians.
