World Athletics hands Kenyan distance runner four-year ban

Nairobi Kenya, May 30 (Infosplusgabon) - World Athletics has slapped a four-year ban on Kenyan long distance runner Mikel Mutai for taking a prohibited substance.

 

Basically, World Athletics, through its doping watchdog, Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) suspended the athlete for doping.

 

The AIU has announced that it had found Mutai guilty of having tested positive to prohibited substance Norandrosterone.

 

''Mutai’s suspension starts on March 20, 2020 for four years and his results dating back to December 15, 2019 will be nullified,'' it said.

 

Mutai and another Kenyan long distance runner Alex Oloitiptip were flagged down on May 13 by AIU for separate violations of anti-doping rules.

 

AIU is yet to determine on Oloitiptip’s case after the athlete was flagged down for his whereabouts violation.

 

The AIU indicated Mutai is free to appeal the decision.
