Tripoli, Libya, May 28 (Infosplusgabon) - The Libyan army loyal to the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the support forces on Tuesday continued to put pressure on the troops of the Libyan National Army (NLA), led by Marshal Khalifa Haftar, near Tripoli, building on their successes of recent weeks.

The spokesman of the GNA forces, Colonel Mohamed Ganounou, announced on Tuesday the assault on positions occupied by Haftar forces on three fighting axes south of the capital, Tripoli.

He explained, in a publication of the media center of the military operation "Volcano of Wrath", that the GNA forces "are consolidating their positions and storming important positions on the axes of Al-Kazirama, Al-Khella, and Ain Zara".

Various sources reported further clashes between the GNA forces and Haftar forces on the Ain Zara and Tarik Al-Matar battle axes, south of Tripoli.

The Operation " Volcano of Wrath " media center announced on Tuesday that forces affiliated to the GNA destroyed three armored vehicles on the Al-Kazarma axis, south of the capital, Tripoli.

In addition, the government forces headquarters have set up toll-free contact numbers to report foreign or suspicious objects in the areas of clashes.

Citizens were asked not to touch or move such objects on their return home and to inform the competent services of their presence.

Haftar-affiliated forces placed explosive devices and mines in the houses and neighborhoods from which they withdrew near Tripoli.

This action was denounced by the United Nations Mission of Support in Libya (UNSMIL), which recalled the requirements of human rights and humanitarian law prohibiting such practices.

Last Friday, two civilians were killed after they returned to inspect their homes in Salaheddine and Al-Mashrou, south of Tripoli, after a mine explosion.

GNA forces have made progress on the military front in recent days by taking control of several towns in western Libya, as well as the strategic military base of Al-Wattia, the centerpiece of the Haftar military offensive against Tripoli.

Contacts are being made by the international and regional powers involved in the Libyan issue with a view to resuming the political process through a ceasefire as a prelude to a settlement of the crisis.
