Niamey, Niger, May 25  (Infosplusgabon) - The Niger government suspended several preventive measures taken in the fight against the spread of the disease, "due to the positive development of certain indicators of the COVID-19 pandemic".

These measures include banning workshops and seminars throughout the country, reducing staff to the bare minimum in religious services and rescheduling of working hours.

Working hours were reduced from 08:00 to 14:00, due to the Covid-19 for more than a month, but have now been restored effective Monday from 08:00 to 17:30 on Monday to Thursday, and from 08:00 to 13:00 on Friday.

Previously, several other preventive measures against Covid-19 had been lifted since 13 May. These include the isolation of the city of Niamey, the closure of places of worship, and the reopening of schools scheduled for 1 June.

However, the government says, to reduce the circulation of the virus and stop the spread of the pandemic, "preventive measures are essential and are being undertaken". These include disinfection of contact sites; controlling infection prevention devices, management of waste from confinement sites; the management of dead bodies and the regular disinfection of ambulances and response vehicles; and disinfection of places of worship.

As of Sunday, out of 4,345 tests, 945 were positive, 101 are under treatment, 783 have recovered and  61 have died.
