Gaborone, Botswana, May 25 (Infosplusgabon) - A Botswana independent market analyst has challenged the government to improve agricultural infrastructure, skills, funding to improve the sector.

Mbaakanyi Lenyatso on Monday said the authorities need to review and look into agriculture as an economic empowerment tool.

“We must review policies and acts to help young farmers to gain confidence and see returns in farming. A lot of funds have been wasted on many projects in agriculture which are either poorly designed or disoriented and badly implemented,” said Lenyatso.

He said agriculture authorities should come up with a clear agriculture funding which is designed to fit each agriculture sector.

“It should not be one-size-fits-all approach. The funding should be designed to accommodate all sectors of production,” Lenyatso said.

Lenyatso bemoaned that agriculture has been relegated to a hobby and social activity.
