Tunis, Tunisia,  May 24 (Infosplusgabon) - Tunisian President Kais Saied on Saturday issued a stern warning to supporters of the counter-revolution and those who "are nostalgic for the past", saying they "are deluding themselves".

"Our people only demanded their right to life and dignity; the Tunisian does not want to be a citizen on election day, and half a citizen afterward. He wants to be a full citizen of a country in which he has all rights," the Tunisian head of state said.

In a radio and television broadcast on the occasion of Eid el-Fitr marking the end of Ramadan, the Tunisian president demanded "the restitution of the property of the people who had been plundered".

Alluding clearly to his determination never to allow the President's prerogatives to be interfered with by the Speaker of Parliament, President Saied affirmed that "the Tunisian State is unique, with only one president".

He added: "The most dangerous of epidemics is the one that infects thoughts and minds before it reaches the rest of the body.

"Some people are prey to nostalgia and dream of a return to the past, others are concerned about their personal ambitions and some have become accustomed to hypocrisy, lies, and defamation...They are sick in the mind," President Saied said.

Observers of the Tunisian political scene underline their fear of a growing crisis between parliamentary groups and the Presidency.

Other political analysts describe the current situation between the two institutions as a mere campaign to sow discord between the Parliament and the Presidency, and to provoke side quarrels between parliamentary blocs with the aim of dismantling state institutions.

President Saied praised the efforts of his country's medical teams to deal with the new coronavirus (Covid-19), calling for more solidarity to enable Tunisia to overcome the crisis.

Tunisia has 1,048 positive cases comprising 914 cured patients, 48 deaths and 86 active cases, including three in hospital.
