Tripoli, Libya, May 24 (Infosplusgabon) - Libya's bitter political rivals - the Tripoli-based Presidential Council of the Government of National Accord (GNA) and the eastern-based House of Representatives - have sent separate messages to the citizens congratulating them on occasion of Eid El-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan on Sunday.

In a statement issued on Saturday evening, the Presidential Council said: "We extend to the great people of Libya our sincere congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of Eid El Fitr, imploring the Almighty that this occasion brings blessings and prosperity to the people of Arab and Islamic nations, and brings security and stability to our country."

The communiqué also congratulated the members of the army under GNA and the support forces on the occasion, "and for the victories, they won on the battle front and in all directions to put an end to the project of hegemony and tyranny for a united nation in which all citizens enjoy freedom, democracy and prosperity".

For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, renewed the call for the formation of a new Presidential Council and the formation of a national government in which the three regions will be represented.

He called on the Arab League, the Security Council and the African Union to assume their responsibilities in what he described as "aggression against our country", stressing support for the armed forces in their war against terrorism.

He said that the House of Representatives will continue to exercise its functions until the election of a new legislative authority.

Mr. Saleh also called for a 20% reduction in the salaries of deputies, ministers, deputy ministers, heads of institutions and organizations, and all state employees, who earn more than 3,000 dinars per month, from June to December 2020.

In his speech, Mr. Saleh warned against the collapse of the financial capacity of the state, and consequently the inability of the government to manage the lives of citizens, due to "the stalemate in the political process, the halt in the production and export of oil and the negative effects of the coronavirus epidemic".

Libya has two rival governments, the GNA which is recognised  by the international community and the parliament based in Tobruk, and supported by the Libyan National Army (LNA).
