Accra, Ghana, May 24 (Infosplusgabon) - The Ghanaian authorities on Saturday announced the arrival in Accra on board a special flight of 245 citizens who were deported from Kuwait.

This follows discussions between the governments of two countries as Ghana has closed its land, air and sea borders because of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.

The Government of Ghana subsequently granted a special permit for the admission of the deportees.

The Director for Media and Communication for Operation COVID Safety, Mr. Dickson Osei Bonsu, said all the deportees were taken through serological tests in Kuwait and tested negative before their departure.

However, personnel of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) again screened and testing them for the virus on Saturday before they were taken to the various quarantine centres where they are expected to stay for 14 days for another test. They will be allowed to integrate with their families when they test negative again.

There are more than 3,000 Ghanaians who are stranded outside the country and have been appealing to the government to be allowed to return.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration says it has collected data from the various missions abroad and is working to fly them back home.
