Port-Louis, Mauritius, May 22 (Infosplusgabon) – Mauritian Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, announced, on Thursday that the national budget for 2020/21 would be presented on 4 June 2020 amidst an unprecedented health crisis linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

He told the Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) that the first and foremost priority of his Government is to preserve employment.

On the propagation of the coronavirus in the country, Mr Jugnauth said that “the population needs to prepare itself for the many challenges that will come our way”.

He said the government has taken several measures to preserve employment, guarantee the salaries of employees, and financially assist the most vulnerable in the society and those working in the informal sector since the outbreak of the coronavirus in Mauritius in March 2020.

The Prime Minister said measures implemented to limit the spread of the virus have proved successful as the country has not recorded any new positive case for the last three weeks.
