Algiers, Algeria, May 21 (Infosplusgabon) - Algeria Wednesday recorded 165 new confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19), 222 cured and 7 deaths over the past 24 hours, an official source said here.

Djamel Fourar, spokesperson for the scientific monitoring committee on the evolution of the coronavirus pandemic, disclosed this at the daily news briefing session.

He said that the total number of confirmed cases, with these new infections, was 7,542 (17 cases/100,000 inhabitants), and 568 deaths, adding that the total number of cured patients was 3,968.

According to Fourar, 23 ‘wilayas’ did not report any new positive case of coronavirus over the past 24 hours, adding that the ‘wiyala’ of Tamanrasset did not record any case for three weeks, with Mostaganem and Saida recording no new case for a week.

In addition, Fourar stressed that the indicator of the spread of the pandemic was set at 1.1 presently, adding that “the expected goal for the government consists in reducing that indicator to -1” by respecting the precaution measures and the follow up of the relatives of patients.
