Morocco registers 110 new cases of Covid-19

Rabat, Morocco,  May 21 (Infosplusgabon) - Morocco recorded 110 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) infection within the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 7,133, the ministry of Health said here Wednesday.

 

The director of the epidemiologic center of fight against diseases at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, said that among the 110 new cases, 95 were detected thanks to a medical follow-up of contact-persons or 87 percent of new cases recorded.

 

Speaking at the daily news conference devoted to the epidemiologic situation, El Youbi added that the majority of new cases were discovered in a new epicenter within an industrial unit in the region of Casablanca-Settat.

 

The number of deaths was taken to 194 after the announcement of a death over the past 24 hours, he said, underlining that the lethality rate or percentage of death caused by the virus among the total of confirmed cases stabilized at 2.7 percent.

 

He added that the number of people declared cured was set at 4,098 after 197 new recoveries were recorded, adding that the recovery rate climbed to 57.5 percent.

 

From a geographical point of view, almost no change was recorded, said El Youbi, who added that the region of Casablanca-Settat was still on top of the ranking of confirmed cases with a bit more than 30 percent, followed by the region of Marrakech-Safi with more than 18 percent.
