Rached Ghannouchi congratulates Fayez al-Sarraj after governmental forces seize air base from pro-Haftar forces

Tripoli, Libya, May 20 (Infosplusgabon)  -  The Speaker of the Tunisian parliament, Rached Ghannouchi, Tuesday congratulated the chairman of the presidential council of the Libyan government of national accord (GNA), Fayez Al-Sarraj, for taking control of the strategic military air base of Al-Wattia, in the Southwest.

Ghannouchi, in a telephone call to Al-Sarraj, expressed "his satisfaction with the return of the base located near the Tunisian border in the bosom of legitimacy".

A statement issued by the Libyan presidential council underlined that there was “no military solution to the Libyan conflict and the need to return to the political process".

According to the same sources, the speaker of the Tunisian parliament added that "Tunisia is directly affected by all that is happening in Libyan, and is concerned with the return of security and stability in the country".

Al-Sarraj expressed "thanks and gratefulness for the feeling of fraternity expressed by Mr Ghannouchi", praising "the strong relations and Tunisia’s concern with security and stability in Libya".

He indicated his aspiration to strengthen the cooperation between the two fellow countries.

On Monday, forces of the GNA and the armed groups backing them took control of the military air base of Al-Wattia from the hands of troops of Marshall Khalifa Haftar.

Haftar has thus lost a key infrastructure used for his quest to seize Tripoli, a goal that now becomes difficult to attain.
