Khartoum, Sudan, May 18  (Infosplusgabon) - The Sudanese national capital government Sunday decided to extend its total lockdown for another two weeks, a joint emergency committee following up the COVID-19 development said here.

The Joint Committee for COVID-19 Emergencies in Khartoum State has recommended the continuation of the curfew and the total lockdown within what it calls the government efforts to “protect the lives of the its citizens due to the escalating numbers of the COVID-19 infections and the expected gatherings before and during Aid Al-Fitre Holiday” in less than two weeks.

The committee, led by the secretary general of Khartoum State, said news reports carried by some social media website that the travel ban between the states will be lifted during the coming days, were in fact baseless.

Khartoum state, the major state within Sudan 18 regions, has also imposed travel ban from and to the national capital for now over two weeks.

The latest report on the virus infection said over 230 people were infected in the past 24 hours, most of them in the national capital, Khartoum, albeit the lockdown.

Khartoum airport will also remain shut to civilian and other regular flights, local and international.
