The Coordinator of Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche, said in a statement that there was “no loss of lives” on the part of the soldiers during the operation, but nine of them sustained injuries and were evacuated to a hospital.

General Enenche said the criminals armed with mortars, rocket propelled grenades and small arms were heading to attack villages surrounding Baga, when the troops attacked their convoy with overwhelming fire power.

They killed 20 of the criminals, captured six AK 47 rifles, 520 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and five 36 hand grenades.

The Defence Spokesperson stated that Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, has commended “the gallant troops for their professionalism and directs them to remain resolute towards eradicating the criminals from the northeast”.
